Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
