Do you ever receive that itch? The itch to gamble, to head to the nearest betting house, to find a superior stakes game of Texas hold’em, to sit at a Pontoon table for hours on end. I like that itch. And I like to scratch it.
I also like to watch folks bet. No two poker faces seem equal. When I gamble I like to assume I put on a poker face which is impenetrable. But I know I have particular actions. For 1, the only time I smoke cigarettes is when I bet on poker or Pontoon. And then I smoke. But I smoke whether or not I am winning or losing, no matter if I have a good hand or bad.
I once wagered in a very weekly poker game. The casino game was often 5 card draw. There was a person who wagered with us every week who often wore a hat. When he was dealt a beneficial hand, subconsciously, he would begin touching and playing with his hat. Pointless to say, he by no means won.
The very best poker gambler I ever saw was a person who manufactured far more movements and gestures at a poker table than anyone I had ever seen. He was flawless in the way he dressed. Always an pricey suit and tie, footwear shined and nails manicured. He was fastidious in this manner. And he was constantly brushing his pants or rubbings his hands or putting his chips in tidy little piles.
I use to analyze him for long periods of time. I’d tried to see if I could spot his tell. Picking fuzz off his vest- did this imply he was bluffing? Arranging his chips within a short pile – did this imply he had a very good hand?
Years later I ran into him in a very bar in Chicago and we had a beverage. I asked him if he were aware of all those movements he produced or if they had been unconscious. He told me that every single individual thing he did at a poker table was intentional. He said that everybody is often checking out everyone else’s poker face. They are attempting to notice the the tell.
So his system was to provide them lots to consider about. His reasoning was if they were pondering about him picking a piece of fuzz off his jacket and what it meant they sure were not thinking about their cards.
His process was diversion. And it worked for him. In no way give up a process that functions for you.
