Net High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the final poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest bettors anywhere in the world. While playing internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the min buy in.

Playing for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world may be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be found competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
