Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
