No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
