Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
