NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
