Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While participating in online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I think television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found gambling on web poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
