Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While playing online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
