No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
