Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
