NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?


Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
