Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
