The Background of Poker Chips

[ English ]

Gaming chips have been made from a wide selection of materials in an almost endless assortment of styles since the creation of gambling and the need to keep track of winnings. The most familiar materials employed at this time in the manufacture of new poker chips are plastic, clay composite, and acrylic composite. Clay chips, the oldest of the bunch, have been manufactured in the US since the late 19th century.

Back in the 1800s, poker enthusiasts seemed to use any small valuable item imaginable. Early poker players sometimes used jagged gold pieces along with chips – chiefly manufactured of wood and clay. By the 20th century, poker chip designs began to employ a bigger prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips were given up to chips with ridges to keep them neatly stacked with each other.

There is little or no doubt that poker has increased constantly in universal appeal ever since its origin in the 19th century. With the explosive advancement of online gaming and specialty television shows, public interest in poker has feed the fire a lot faster than ever before. Most individuals are first introduced to poker by television showslike "Celebrity Poker" or "Poker After Dark," and many will participate in their initial hands on the net. Despite web poker’s rise, nothing competes with the feeling of holding heavy poker chips in your hands, throwing chips into the middle of a poker table, or stacking high pilesstacks of chips after showing a victorious hand.
