Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve last poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While competing in web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best players in the world might just be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
