Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
